Mr. Pavey, WCI History Teacher Wins 2009 Governor General's Award
We are very pleased and proud to announce that Brent Pavey, a History teacher at Waterloo Collegiate Institute, is one of only seven teachers from across Canada and two in Ontario who are recipients of the 2009 Governor General's Awards for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History.Every year, the Awards recognize teachers from elementary and secondary schools who have inspired and challenged students to explore Canadian history in a unique, interactive way.
On Friday, November 20, 2009, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada will present the Awards at Rideau Hall. Another highlight of the Award festivities is the gala dinner and a rare insiders' tour of the Library and Archives Canada Preservation Centre.
Brent Pavey commented, "Needless to say, I am really pleased, and proud. Pavey continued, "The very best part, actually, is that Lucky Manku and Megan Stacey, the students who nominated me also get to attend the ceremony in Ottawa."
The seven recipients will be awarded $2,500 and a gold medal and their respective schools will also benefit from a cash gift of $1,000. Congratulations and well done Mr. Pavey!!!
